 Today is my first Sota of 2018,an easy one to begin with.
There is a parking area near the summit,once out of the car it's a short 10 minute hike to the activation zone.
Ceci est mon premier Sota de la saison 2018,une ascension très facile. L'aire de stationnement se trouve tout près du sommet,une courte randonnée de 10 minutes mènera a la zone d'activation sur le sommet.

 The small amount of snow remaining is frozen hard so no need for snow shoes. 
La neige au sol est bien gelée,les raquettes seront inutiles.

 This rock covered in moss will make a perfect seat !
Ce rocher couvert de mousse sera l'endroit idéal ou m'asseoir !


 I arrive ahead of schedule so this leaves me with plenty of time to work locals on VHF. 6 contacts are made using a new (for this year) N9TAX built Slim Jim antenna for VHF-UHF and it seems to work very good. 
J'arrive bien a l'avance ce qui me donnera l'occasion de faire des contacts locaux sur VHF avec l'antenne Slim Jim. 6 qso seront effectués.

 VA2PGB and VA2QR provide the spots (thanks) and the pilueup begins on 14,347 SSB. Lots of background noise but still i am very surprised of the band condition wich even brings my signal into europe with 6 qso's.
Many chasers from USA and a few from other parts of Canada also. Atotal of 31 qso's, thanks to you all !
Merci a VA2PGB et VA2QR de m'avoir spotté, immédiatement le pileup s'en suit sur 14,347 SSB. Du a la proximité d'une ligne électrique je subit un peu de bruit sur HF cependant je suis étonné des bonnes conditions sur 20m,j'aurai facilement réussi 6 qso avec l'Europe,plusieurs avec les États-Unis ainsi que 2 avec des provinces de l'ouest du Canada. 31 qso au total, merci a vous tous !


The weather was perfect with no wind at all. I could see other peaks in the distance thru the trees.
La température était parfaite et pas du tout de vent. J'ai pu apercevoir au travers des arbres plusieurs sommets avoisinants.

               22/10/2017  VE2/ML-005 Rigaud


A beautiful day today for the annual fall season group SOTA activation with the WIARC group at Rigaud mountain.
Une superbe journée pour l'activité annuelle de SOTA de groupe automnale du groupe du WIARC au mont Rigaud.


We were 10 participants in the event and most are already SOTA activators.
10 participants étaient présents dont la plupart sont déja des activateurs SOTA.

06-08-2017 VE2/ML-002 Rougemont


 Today's Sota destination is a local summit and is an easy climb,the only way up is by the dirt road and total time to reach the summit is 45 minutes.
La destination Sota d’aujourd’hui est un sommet local qui est très facile d’aces,la rando est courte: 45 minutes. 



It is rather windy at the top so after a few photos were taken i move back down a little and install the station.
Le vent est fort au sommet donc après quelques photos je redescends un petit peu et installes l'équipement radio.

I am expecting to work other VE2 activators as this is "VE2 megactivation" day but unfortunately could not hear any of them.
17 qso's will be made,one DX with CT1HIX in Portugal and two S2S,one of them will be on 2m FM with the hand held rig to a summit across the border in Vermont !
Je m'attends a contacter quelques autres Sotaistes Québecois comme c'est la journée "mégactivation VE2",malheureusement je ne réussirai pas a les entendre. 17 qso furent réalisés en tout dont un DX avec CT1HIX au Portugal et deux S2S dont l'un d'eux avec le Portatif en 2m FM avec le Vermont de l'autre coté de la frontiere !



Once my activation is done,i go back up to the view point and take out my binoculars,i also get to chat with fellow ham's through the local repeater...wich is right beside me !
Une fois l'activité radio terminée,je retournes sur le point de vue et observes le paysage a l'aide de jumelles,je prends aussi quelques minutes pour faire quelques qso avec des om's sur le répeteur local dont l'antenne se trouve tout juste a coté de moi !

05/08/2017 W1/AM-100 Big Saddle Hill

For this hike i teamed up with Malcom VE2DDZ. We arrived in the area by a dirt road and looked for a spot to park the car further ahead from the trailhead as this would save us precious time on an already long hike.
Pour cette rando j'était accompagné de Malcom VE2DDZ. En arrivant dans le secteur par un chemin de terre nous nous rendons un peu plus loin pour stationner la voiture,ceci raccourcira le temps de rando qui est déjà assez long. 

The trail goes through the woods and is pretty easy but we always keep and eye on the small blue markers on the trees because there are often other trails connecting and leading away from our goal.
Le sentier passe a travers les bois et est assez facile mais il ne faut perdre de vue les indications en bleu car plusieurs autres sentiers viennent s'y greffer ce qui peu faire dévier de l'objectif.

At about two thirds of the way up we exit the woods and walk along the border line wich leads up to Saddle montain VE2/ES-005 where Malcom will do his Sota activation.
Aux deux tiers de la rando nous sortons de la foret et continuons sur la ligne de la frontière,ceci nous mènera jusqu'au sommet Saddle VE2/ES-005 ou Malcom fera son activation Sota.






I continue along the same path and arrive shortly after on my targeted summit W1/AM-100 wich is also right on the border line.
Moi je continue la marche sur le meme chemin jusqu’à ma destination: Big Saddle Hill W1/AM-100 qui est lui aussi directement a cheval sur la ligne de la frontière.



My first contact begins with an S2S to Canada !
Le premier contact se veut un S2S avec le Canada !

Luckily i got spotted from the begining,so i will get a short but activation but satisfying log. Light rain is starting so i quickly pack up and head back to join Malcom.
Par chance je fut spotté des le départ,l'activation fut de courte durée mais le log sera satisfaisant. La pluie débutes tout doucement alors je remballes le tout et retournes rejoindre Malcom qui m'attends pour la descente.

As we exit the border line and enter the forest,rain starts coming down and soon we have to put on the rain coats because now it is really pouring down hard.
Aussitôt que nous revenons a la foret,la pluie s'intensifie et nous devons enfiler les imperméables. 

This was the first time i got rain on a Sota but it was expected and i was prepared for it.
C'était pour ma part,ma première expérience de pluie en Sota mais comme c'était prévu je m'était préparé adéquatement.

We did have time to take a few pictures before the bad weather.
Nous avons tout juste eu le temps de prendre quelques clichés avant le mauvais temps.

Total time to hike up to Big Saddle Hill : two and a half hours (one way).
Le temps de rando pour Big saddle Hill: deux heures et demie (aller seulement).
