July 7-8 Sota tour Megantic area
Along with Bram VA2XE and Jonathan VA2XZA we head out to Megantic area where there are many summits in viscinity to activate on our 2 day stay.
En compagnie de Bram VA2XE et Jonathan VA2XZA nous nous rendons dans le secteur du mont Mégantic ou se trouvent plusieurs sommets pour un week-end d'activations.
First on the list was Megantic VE2/ES-003 and Mt St-Joseph VE2/ES-020 on wich the group was divided on the two peaks.
Les premiers sur la liste seront Mégantic VE2/ES-003 et St-Joseph VE2/ES-020. Le groupe est divisé en deux et nous activerons chacuns des sommets a tour de rôle.

Later in the day we headed out to Gosford VE2/ES-004.
The hike took 1:45h to 2 hours and what a view on the summit ! this one is a must for anyone coming to this region. It is located right on the edge of the border with the state of Maine.
Plus tard dans la journée nous partons pour le mont Gosford VE2/ES-004. La rando sera d'une durée de 1:45h a 2 h et quelle vue époustouflante au sommet !
Ce sommet est situé tout près de la ligne de la frontière avec l'état du Maine. C'est une montagne qui est absolument a faire si vous prévoyez aller dans le coin.
We were very satisfied to get our required contacts and a little more as this was a tough hike but we had to make it quick as the sun was going down and we needed to be back to the car before dark.
We did arrive at the parking area at 21:15h loc. wich was past sunset and with just barely enough light to see the rocky trail thru the woods.
Comme c'était une dure randonnée nous étions assez satisfaits d'avoir pu valider cette activation sans difficulté mais nous avons du nous dépêcher car le soleil descendait rapidement,il fallait prévoir assez de temps pour la descente.
Nous sommes arrivée au stationnement a 21:15h loc. tout juste après le coucher du soleil avec juste assez de visibilité pour distinguer les roches sur le sentier.

On to the campground for a good night's sleep.
En direction du camping pour une bonne nuit de repos.
The next morning as i was ready early i set out solo to mont Notre Dame VE2/ES-023. This is an easy one and the hike is about 15 minutes thru the woods. No view at the summit.
Le lendemain matin comme j'était pret assez tot j'ai décidé de partir en solo pour le mont Notre Dame VE2/ES-023. La rando de 15 minutes jusqu'au sommet est tres facile mais il n'y a aucune vue car tout est boisé.

Next on the agenda is Scotch VE2/ES-021 while Bram and Johnny head for their turn on to ES-023.
Prochain sommet: Scotch VE2/ES-021 et pendant ce temps Bram et Jonathan activeront ES-023 a leur tour.
Scotch is tricky to hike especially on the way down,the reason beeing un-stable rocks beneath the vegetation on a steep incline,also it is preferable to do an early morning hike on this one since it is facing the sun and can get very warm.
I was lucky as the wind was blowing providing a cooler breeze.
Le mont Scotch présente une difficulté particulière sous la forme de roches instables sous la végétation et le tout sur une pente assez raide. Il est préférable d'effectuer cette rando tôt le matin car la pente fait face au soleil et ça peut devenir assez exténuant avec la chaleur.
Par chance il y avait une bonne brise pour me rafraichir.
I reached the summit after a difficult 40 minute hike. The wind is blowing but there are still lots of flying insects constantly buzzing around,no worry i've got protection.
J'atteint le sommet apres une dure rando de 40 minutes.Le vent souffle mais beaucoup d'insectes volants envahissent quand meme les lieux. Peu importe,car je suis bien protégé.
The view is spectacular and makes this summit really worth the effort.
La vue spectaculaire fait en sorte que ce sommet en vaut vraiment l'effort.
I worked Bram and Jonathan S2S from ES-023.
I terminate my activation and call it a day since my left knee is strating to give me some pain. The boys head out to Hereford VE2/ES-010 for their final Sota of the week-end.
J'ai attendu l'appel de mes deux collègues pour faire un S2S avant de terminer mon activation. Pour ma part ce sera la fin du périple une fois redescendu car un genou commence a être endolori.
Mes deux collegues quand a eux partent pour le mont Hereford VE2/ES-010 pour leur dernière activation de la journée.

We had planned to do Saddle VE2/ES-005 but ran out of time and energy.
Nous avions prévu de faire le mont Saddle VE2/ES-005 mais avons manqué de temps et d'énergie.
